At-Home Storage

  • Refrigerate or freeze veal as soon after purchasing as possible.
  • If veal is wrapped in uncoated butcher paper, unwrap and repackage in heavy-duty aluminum foil, freezer paper or plastic freezer bags.
  • Veal wrapped in transparent film can be refrigerated (or frozen up to 2 weeks) without re-wrapping. For longer freezer storage, prevent freezer burn by repackaging veal in heavy-duty aluminum foil, freezer paper or plastic freezer bags, removing as much air as possible.
  • Vacuum-packaged veal does not require repackaging for refrigerator or freezer storage.
  • If refrigerated, place in meat compartment or coldest part of refrigerator.
  • Label and date frozen veal packages, including weight and/or number of servings. Practice FIFO -- first in, first out.
